Jan 31, 2012 at 2:00 pm to Jan 31, 2012 at 3:30 pm
Online
This webinar, in partnership with the National Institute of Justice, will examine the complex issue of researching an elderly population — and, how a truly innovative partnership among state adult protective services agencies, a national association, and criminal-justice researchers is overcoming the challenges. Kristen Johnson, a researcher with the National Council on Crime and Delinquency, will talk about a National Institute of Justice -funded risk assessment for elder mistreatment that she is currently developing in New Hampshire. Rachel Lakin, with that state’s Bureau of Elderly and Adult Services, will offer the practice and policy perspective: what makes her relationship with the researchers work? How have practices in her agency changed as a result of the research experience? And what should other APS agencies think about before they get involved in a research project? Finally, Kathleen Quinn, director of the National Adult Protective Services Association, will offer the national perspective, including guidelines to help state agencies that are thinking about participating in these important research projects.
Andy Mao, Senior Counsel for Health Care Fraud and Elder Justice with in the U.S. Department of Justice, will moderate.
